About
The mission of the Commons Revival is to provide pathways for not-for-profit organizations with under-utilized buildings to re-imagine their space as public assets, revitalize them, and make them once again vibrant community centers for connection, friendship, and celebration.
The Commons Revival offers research, education, and training on community development models that can breath life back into community spaces. We are living in the most isolating times in human history; Access to gathering spaces is absolutely essential to the vital community-building work that will heal this loneliness epidemic.
Right now, there are thousands of buildings across America that, at one point in time, were the heart of their community, but are now on the fast track to becoming sold and privatized (tens of thousands more have already met this fate). Many of these buildings are owned by fraternal and faith-based organizations that have had declining membership for decades and can no longer afford to maintain their buildings. Each and every time one of these buildings is sold to a private developer, it is a travesty for the local community. These buildings must be preserved for future generations.
The Commons Revival exists to guide organizations through a metamorphosis - and find financial stability, deep impact, and community service on the other side.
Our core values are: Reciprocity, Shared Responsibility, Hospitality, Cooperation, and Giving.
